Next up on our Vatican Tour, the glorious Vatican Museum. The grounds and gardens of the museum are a sanctuary inside the vast stone walls that surround Vatican City.
Ornate with modern art & new age outdoor sculptures, it is said that the Pope often comes out to the gardens to walk, relax and take in the refreshing atmosphere.
I’ve always been one to relish Roman sculptures, alas, here you have no shortage! Walk amongst the arches and marble walls. Peek into a thousand year old sarcophagus. Admire the detail, the emotion, the great precision it took to create these sculptures that would stand the test of time.
More importantly, I noticed the expression of the ancient relics represented in the sculptures. Some have a prominent look of stoicism. In contrast, others tell a silent tale of humility and fear. Warriors boast glory, while the sorrowful look toward heaven in search of transcendence.
Beyond a doubt, the chariot exhibit is a showcase of unimaginable artistic perfection set in stone. The talent to create such a masterpiece is truly mind boggling. The lighting was tricky for photography in this room at the museum, but we did our best to represent the horse chariot, although, no picture does this masterpiece justice.
The Museum at the Vatican is a must-see for all. With all due respect, an endearing place to showcase some of Italy’s finest cultural and spiritual representations.
Our Tour of the Vatican continues next to The Sistine Chapel…
