The Root Chakra is our “tribal or ancestral” chakra because it is where we store our life force energy. This energy is from our parents, grandparents and all who came before them. Often times, when we are manifesting chronic hip or low back issues, there is something going on with a family member. For example, it could be a fight you had with a sibling from a decade ago of which you never made amends. In a similar sense, it could be a past or current divorce, marital separation, or problems with children. Perhaps it is broken lines of communication between you and your parents or other family members.
Yoga Therapy for the Root Chakra
Taking initiative to really look introspectively at the “root” cause of the issue is the way to solve the blocked energy of the Root Chakra. There is probably a lot of hurt, negative emotions and fear that need to be released before you can move on. This process is never easy but running away or hiding from it will only cause more disease to manifest itself in your body. Now is the time to do something whether it involves forgiveness or making amends. If pain has manifested itself on the physical level due to avoiding these issues- that’s an indication that you have already waited too long.
Yoga to Heal the Root Chakra
The “active” yoga asanas presented in this article have been chosen specifically for their empowering effects on the Root Chakra.
Our stability and inner strength are depleted when there is a lack of energy in the Muladhara “Root” Chakra. We may feel that we have lost our footing or that the “rug has been swept out from under us.” Typically, when the Root Chakra energy is weak, we become very uncomfortable in our own skin. We may not want to be here at all anymore, likewise, we tend to lack concentration and are prone to daydreaming. Fear of our own survival in society and self-doubts assail the mind. In addition, we are physically weak and lack endurance. We would rather “think” or contemplate about doing something rather than actually doing it.
Practicing these active yoga asanas on a daily basis can greatly empower us on a personal level and start to energize the depleted energy of the Root Chakra. It is recommended to start out with practicing 3 poses per day, attempting to hold each pose for 30 seconds up to 2 minutes. After the first few weeks, attempt to challenge yourself to progress up to 5 poses or more per day until you feel that you have achieved the level of empowerment and healing that you are seeking.
Furthermore, it is imperative to practice these chakra yoga poses every single day in order to see results. Practicing theses postures only one time per week or “infrequently” will not produce the results you desire. Commitment to your well being lies in your hands. No one else can take the initiative except for you. If you truly want to heal, take action.
